Victoria Justice’s Favorite Books as a Kid — and What She’s Reading Today

by the Brightly Editors

Victoria Justice is well-known to many from her starring turns on Nickelodeon, MTV, and in FOX’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again.” But what many fans may not know about Victoria is that she’s also a passionate advocate for reading and literacy, especially for children. The actress and singer has lent her voice and time to JetBlue’s Soar with Reading program to help bring more books to more kids. This summer, Victoria is helping Soar with Reading distribute 100,000 books to kids in need in her hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Brightly was thrilled to check in with Victoria to learn more about her passion for reading, why she thinks it’s so important, and what some of her all-time favorite books are.

Why do you love reading?

I love reading because it is a great way to learn about new things, relax, and get lost in another world. It’s also helped me to build my vocabulary.

What memories do you have of reading as a kid?

I have great memories of going to book stores with my mom when I was younger. It was always such a fun activity!

What were some of your favorite books from childhood?

Some of the books I loved most were Love You ForeverThe Rainbow FishEsperanza Rising, and Miss Spider’s Wedding.

What do books offer you?

Books offer me a lot of things; they’re a new world that I can step into. I also find it super comforting to read in my downtime — reading helps me relax.

What types of stories are you drawn to lately?

love true crime. I also love autobiographies from funny women who I admire, like Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling, and Tina Fey.

Why do you think books and reading are so uniquely important?

I love that when I read, I am learning new information that I can share with other people. That’s always fun. Reading also allows you to use your imagination, which is super important.
